| Your Service Obligation as a David Scholar
David Scholars are service-minded scientists. They know that "doing science" can be exciting, and a real motivation to learning. David Scholars spend at least fifteen hours each term teaching and mentoring in public schools serving in low-income students, and working to create enthusiasm for science in children who would otherwise not be directly exposed to scientific research. David Scholars are required to act as instructors or mentors to low income and minority students at Willard Junior High School in Berkeley. Students will be required to conduct what might be termed as "scientific evangelism"- that is, doing fun experiments, teaching, or otherwise communicating what being a scientist is about. |
