Investigating ecological trends in the Phillips Coal Ball Collection

This summer, I will be continuing my work in transcribing and analyzing data from the Phillips Coal Ball Collection (PCBC). The PCBC contains taxa, tissue, and organ data from the analysis of 800,000cm2 of fossilized Pennsylvanian plant material collected from 17 different localities. I will continue to investigate the correlation we found in ecological dissimilarity between these localities across space and time and look into unique trends between time slices.

Message To Sponsor

Thank you to the donors who supported me and the other URAP students in our summer research. It was an incredible learning experience that gave me the chance to participate in data collection/entry in a field that I care greatly about and will be continuing research in for the rest of my undergraduate career. It was truly my dream to contribute to biology research when I came to Cal, and this program has allowed me to do just that.
