Effects of Early Violent Experiences on Children's Development and Future Violence Propensity

Hakim's research investigates the profound effects of early violent experiences on the mental, emotional, and social development of Black urban youth, examining correlations with future violence, victimization, or criminal justice involvement. It addresses the gap in understanding these dynamics within Black communities and seeks to redefine "exposure to violence" through the lived experiences of those affected. Hakim's goal is to enrich scholarly dialogue on urban interventions and trauma-informed care, outlining strategies to interrupt the systemic cycle of violence. This study will not only form the cornerstone of his honors thesis but also aim to link academic exploration with tangible initiatives to drive societal change.
