Motivators and Barriers to Social Interaction in People with Schizophrenia

My current research project examines how people with schizophrenia experience their social world. More specifically, it analyzes the different motivators and barriers to social interaction in people with schizophrenia and controls with the purpose of providing a deeper understanding of social functioning among people with this condition. Data on the Clinical Assessment Interview for Negative Symptoms (CAINS) was used to assess motivation and pleasure related to family relationships, romantic relationships, and friendships, past week pleasurable social activities, and expected next week pleasurable social activities.

Working at the Emotion and Social Interaction lab fits perfectly with my career goals! In the near future, I would like to obtain a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with the purpose of being able to contribute to academia and further the understanding of early psychosis and schizophrenia. My work at this lab has allowed me to improve in different parts of the research process including but not limited to literature reviews, brainstorming how to code qualitative data, training research assistants, administering experiment on research participants, and analyzing data.
